York Station Concourse

Client

LNER

Location

York

Project Value

£2.2m

Project duration

38 weeks

Summary

Constructed in 1877, York Railway Station is a grade II listed building that boasts great historical importance for the rail industry. Consortia were delighted to deliver improvement works to a station filled with cultural heritage and character.

We were appointed by LNER to complete a full refurbishment of the station which we divided into two phases. During the first phase, we successfully installed new TVM and ATM pods and stripped out and upgraded the building. We then created a new travel centre for the passenger interface, including sales counters, an information desk, and staff accommodation to the back-of-house.

During phase two, we constructed a brand new First Class Lounge for the passenger interface, ensuring we met our client’s need to exhibit the historical importance of York in Rail. At the opening LNER held to showcase their new station upgrades, railway historian Tim Dunn – who opened the lounge said “It’s great to see the lounge incorporate York’s history, giving visitors a real sense of what the city is about.” and Rob Burges from Head for Points UK named the new lounge “The smartest rail lounge in the country.”

Additionally, we constructed new retail units as well as modern Ladies WC Facilities.
