The City of Liverpool College had an on-going issue with water flooding into a plantroom that was directly beneath the nursery play area close to a main plantroom control panel. The flooring above the plantroom was insulated with 400mm of insulation topped off with interlocked composite decking, there was no indication were the leak might be. Coupled with this was an imitation turfed area that was like an ice rink to walk on and therefore cordoned off to prevent children and staff entering the area.
The decking was opened at strategic points and the insulation cut out, and the area was flushed with water until the leak was found and repaired and the decking repaired and replaced, the plastic grassed area was removed and new imitation layer of grass added to make the area a safe place to play.
